Our Story: From a Simple Idea to a Thriving Network
Good Homestay was founded in 2014 by Hiro Miyata with a simple vision: to build a stronger connection between his home country, Japan, and his second home, New Zealand. Having such a wonderful and unforgettable homestay experience himself when he first arrived in Auckland during the 90s as a high school student from Japan, there is no doubt about how fascinating the homestay experience can be. What started as a small, family-run business helping Japanese students find their first safe landing spot has grown into a network connecting so much more.
Witnessing the incredible, life-changing experiences that both students and host families were having, we expanded our network. Since 2018, we’ve welcomed students from all over the world, including the Middle East, East Asia, and Latin America. In 2024, we proudly extended our network to Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, and Queenstown in 2026, continuing our mission of fostering global connections as a Trusted Japanese Homestay Agency with deep roots in both countries.
